Extension is a very old area of Nanaimo. It was a busy mining community in the early 1900’s. However, when the mines closed, Extension was pretty well abandoned. Today Extension is a pretty rural area. It's accessible via Extension Rd, just south of Cinnabar Valley — about 17 minutes' drive from downtown Nanaimo.
You can expect to find older homes with large lot’s as well as acreages in the Extension area. The area is near the Nanaimo River which is a wonderful, popular spot for families in the summer.
