How To Research The Nanaimo Real Estate Market

Many of my clients ask what the best way is to quickly get to know the real estate market in Nanaimo. My answer may surprise you. The best way to get yourself up to speed on the real estate market is to visit open houses.

Open houses in NanaimoHere’s why visiting open houses in Nanaimo is a good idea:

1.  You’ll get real-time information on your competition.

Sure, reading reports from the MLS will be useful, but nothing beats actually visiting homes for sale instead of just reading about them.

2.  Visiting open houses is a great way to learn how motivated Nanaimo homeowners are to move their property.

Again, talking to the listing agent or seller eye-to-eye and hearing what they have to say is a great way to judge how quickly somebody really wants to sell.

3.  Get free tips on how to sell your home.

Attending open houses is an excellent way to see in person what works and what doesn’t work, and will help you jump start the marketing of your house.  You’ll be able to learn from the mistakes of others, and also capitalize on the marketing methods that you like and that work well.

There are two types of open houses:  Those that are held by the listing real estate agent, and FSBO, or for sale by owner, open houses.

Try to find both types to visit.  This will allow you to compare the information that you get directly from somebody trying to sell their home in Nanaimo versus what a listing real estate agent is telling you.
