Where is Nanaimo?
Nanaimo is located on Central Vancouver Island in BC, Canada. Nanaimo is just a two hour drive from Victoria and a 1.5 hour ferry ride from the outskirts of Vancouver. Nanaimo is the 2nd largest city on Vancouver Island and has a population of 83,810. Nanaimo is the 63rd largest city in Canada and the 13th largest city in British Columbia.
As the second largest city on Vancouver Island, Nanaimo is home to several recreation centres, many soccer, baseball and football fields, Vancouver Island University, marinas, many nature parks, several lakes, golf courses, ocean beaches and an excellent theatre. In fact, Nanaimo has so much to offer that there isn’t much you can’t do here!
We moved our family to Nanaimo five years ago from the Greater Vancouver area. We believe that our quality of life has improved since we moved here.
Nanaimo has two ferry terminals that connect you to the Vancouver area within 1.5- 2 hours. In addition, Nanaimo has an airport and several float plane operators. A float plane can take you harbour to harbour (Nanaimo to Vancouver or vice versa) within 20 minutes. The trip across offers passengers incredible views of the Gulf Islands. In fact, it almost feels like you are on a sight-seeing tour!
Nanaimo is made up of 18 neighbourhoods. Each of them has something special to offer. Your choice of where to live will vary depending on choices of schools, type of housing you are looking for and your price range.
