I read an article recently written by VIREB which stated that the top four inexpensive kitchen renovations are:

Resurface or repaint old cupboards-   This is the cheapest way to give your kitchen a facelift.  There are companies out there who will re-face your cabinets so that they look like you have completely re-done them.  Home Depot offers re-surfacing.   I have seen a lot of attractive kitchens where the owners have painted their cabinets so they look brand new.

Use more Glass- Glass and mirrors in a room give the impression of more space and light.  Try replacing a few cupboard doors with glass ones with interior lighting.

Change your hardware - Try removing all your drawer and cabinet knobs and handles and replacing them with new ones.  This one change can make all the difference to how modern a kitchen looks.  There is a huge selection of different hardware available in a full spectrum of colours and price ranges.

Wall and floor facelifts - Try adding a lovely tile backsplash in your kitchen and then choose a new paint colour for the walls.  Flooring changes can make a huge difference to the look of your kitchen.  Flooring doesn't have to be expensive.  We just replaced some flooring in our bathroom at our family cottage.  We chose linoleum which looked like tile.  It cost next to nothing but it looks lovely.
