Move to Departure Bay

Are you considering a move to the Departure Bay area?  Departure Bay is a lovely ocean side community showcasing a fabulous beach and stunning views.  The area is very hilly which allow for homes to enjoy spectacular views.  There are pros and cons to the hilly geography.  The pros are of course the views the cons are that these hills can make walking a challenge for some and the occasional snowy day can make driving a vehicle sometimes quite hazardous. 

The area has pretty good bus service.  The Departure Bay area is also recognized as a fairly safe area for families and seniors alike.

A move to the Departure Bay area offers a choice of three Elementary schools and one high school.  The schools in the area are fairly old but have good reputations.  The high school is Wellington and the Elementary schools are Departure Bay , Cilaire and Rock City.  Both Departure Bay School and Cilaire offer their students ( and parents) stunning views.  My son went to Departure Bay School.  I remember when we first moved here and I went and picked him up I couldn't believe the million dollar view from the schools front steps.  I felt very lucky to be living here! 

If you choose to move to Departure Bay you will have the choice of three nearby shopping centres.  There are some local businesses in the community.  You will find a small retail area just across the road from the beach.  There is a convenience store, hair salon, ice cream store and a wonderful Indian restaurant along with several other small businesses.

There are several parks in the area including Beach Estates Park, Linley Valley  along with playgrounds at all of the elementary schools.

As for housing in the Departure Bay area you will find small beach houses on and around the beach.  As you drive around the area you will notice allot of modest split level homes and some semi-luxury and luxury homes clinging to the hillside.  There are some town houses as well as a few condo developments although the area is predominantly single family homes.
