How To Avoid Movers Remorse

If you are going to be making a move soon, here are a few tip to follow to help avoid making mistakes after you move:

1.  Doing everything yourself - the advantage to using a professional moving service is that you have somebody else to do the heavy lifting, allowing you to focus on the big picture of getting settled in.

2.  Moving clutter from one place to another - Moving gives you the perfect excuse to reduce your clutter and throw away or donate all of those things that you haven't used in years.  Doing this before you load the truck at your old house will make it much easier to unload at your new home.

3.  Using cheap boxes and packing material - There's nothing worse than having a box fall apart just as you're carrying it into your new home.  Likewise, getting skimpy with the packing material can result in broken glasses or plates.

4.  Not labeling boxes - One of the big keys to making your unpacking successful is to put each box in its room before you start unpacking.  If you forget to label boxes your move-in will take much, much longer leaving you less time to enjoy the first day in your new home.

5.  Being unprepared for a rainy day - You've planned and scheduled your move weeks or even months in advance, so when it comes to moving day you can't change the date just because of a little rain.  Be prepared for a rainy moving day by making sure you have mats and tarps on hand to protect your belongings as you move them into you new house.

6.  Forgetting to schedule the utilities - It's easy to forget the basics when you are wrapped up in getting your moving done.  Make a list of the utilities that you need to have turned on and be sure to give the companies enough advance notice so that your utility turn-on date is on or before you move-in date.
