1. Keep greenery cut back away from the house.  It’s best to have about 10 feet of space between your house and the closest tree or large bush.

Debris on the roof and in the rain gutters.  This is one of those ‘out of sight, out of mind’ items that can sort of sneak up on you.  Mark a date in your calendar, once or twice a year, to have accumulated leaves and branches removed from the roof and your rain gutters cleaned.

Make sure filters and vents are kept clean.  It’s easy to forget about the lint accumulating in a clothes dryer vent, cooking grease in the exhaust fan over your stove, and your chimney flue that you may not use that often.

Too many items plugged in to too few electrical outlets.  If you investment in Nanaimo real estate is an older home, chances are you find yourself searching for a free outlet at times.  Rather than be tempted to ‘over plug’, it’s best to play it safe and have a licensed electrician install a few extra outlets for you.

While your electrician is at your home, they can also do a quick electrical inspection for you and make sure that your circuit breakers are up to code.
